New Zealand Institute for Crop and Food Research (Crop and Food)

Crop and Food is a government owned research institute with a responsibility for providing research and development services for the arable, vegetable, ornamental and seafood sectors.

Research capability covers the "fork to farm" production chain (i.e. crop production through post-harvest and processing to human nutrition, with strong expertise in soil and water management, crop development, plant biotechnology, food development and human nutrition). Crop & Food has strong links with the food industry and with arable and vegetable grower associations and works closely with these groups to carry out research and commercialise technologies. Scientists from Crop & Food have many linkages with research groups in Europe, with long standing relationships with Wageningen University and Research (the Netherlands), the John Innes Centre (UK) and the Institute for Food Research (UK). Crop & Food is a partner in the multi-national potato-genome-sequencing consortium, led by Wageningen University.
