Objective 1
To strengthen relationships between consumers, knowledge providers and industry in the EU and NZ.
The food industry is a key to economic prosperity in both the EU and NZ. It is important for:
- Increased employment rates and opportunities;
- Increased export earnings and reduced import costs; and
- Improved social conditions including health and lifestyle.
Both the EU and NZ want to develop innovative, novel food products that meet consumer needs in a global context for both high volume production and niche markets. Through this project, mutual benefits will occur through sharing experiences on two key issues:
- Integration of consumer needs and perceptions in developing research priorities; and
- A strong emphasis on cross-sectoral collaboration, which ensures research is not only driven by consumer demands, but is also taken up quickly and efficiently by all actors in the food sector and associated disciplines such as genomics, informatics, environmental and social sciences.
