PROJECT NEWS WORKSHOP UPDATE STUDY VISITS CONFERENCE LINKS

Lincoln University, New Zealand

Lincoln University undertakes internationally recognised research in a wide range of disciplines related to agriculture and life sciences.

Lincoln University has an unambiguous research focus on agriculture, food and the environment. Few research organisations world-wide would have a greater tradition of innovation in land-based sciences (over 125 years). As a direct consequence of its emphasis on applied scientific research Lincoln University has excellent collaborations with both agricultural and horticultural organisations. These collaborations have led to both the solution of industry problems and the creation of new research opportunities (eg, eco-n, molecular markers to assist breeding criteria, meat quality assurance and leading research for the wine industry). Lincoln University has a strong national research network and well established links to Europe. A major contribution that Lincoln brings to this proposal is expertise in sustainable food production through a wide range of approaches including organic, conventional and biotechnology.

Examples of the world class resources available include the National Centre for Advanced Bio-Protection Technologies, the Lincoln Biotron and Heinz Wattie/Lincoln University organic demonstration farm. In addition, Lincoln University is located on a ‘science park’ with partner organisations involved in the SSA such as Crop & Food Research, AgResearch and HortResearch.

Lincoln University would particularly welcome hosting recipients of SSA European Fellowships interested in sustainable agricultural production or any aspect relating to the wine industry. We would provide appropriate contacts throughout NZ in these areas of interest.
