Crop & Food Research is a NZ-based biological science company that carries out both government-funded research and work for commercial companies. We have expertise in arable, vegetable, ornamental and seafood raw materials. Our research is aimed at:
Personalised foods: Using our specialist knowledge we are developing foods and food products that are both nutritious and convenient and may lower the risk of disease. New knowledge is making it possible to personalise foods to meet individual needs.
Sustainable land and water use: We develop crop production systems to enhance productivity in balance with the environment, and meet consumer expectations for health, safety and quality.
High performance plants: Our aim is to produce plants that are more valuable to industry and better meet the needs of consumers. We use a range of systems including conventional and gene techniques.
New biomolecules and biomaterials: We are discovering novel properties and developing new uses for natural products extracted from plants and marine fauna. Potential applications include agriculture, packaging, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
Our 380 staff are based in well equipped facilities at various locations in NZ, including Lincoln (near Christchurch), Palmerston North, Hastings and Auckland. Collaborations with world leading experts are important to us. We have a number of successful relationships with EU partners and are keen to develop more.
